Edith Bakker
Psychologist
Edith is an experienced and versatile healthcare psychologist who has seen almost every facet of the psychological field. She graduated in clinical neuropsychology, which led to a position in rehabilitation care and care for older adults. Her interest in medicine found its place in a role as a medical psychologist at several hospitals in the province of North Holland. After completing her healthcare psychologist training, Edith worked for a considerable time in specialist mental health care. Over the past ten years she has immersed herself in the connection between body and mind, and in the importance of involving the body in psychological treatment, which is so often purely cognitive. This has grown into a combination of psychology and yoga as therapy, with particular attention to the regulation of the nervous system.
In recent years she has been working as an entrepreneur and freelance psychologist, from yoga retreats in the Netherlands and Portugal to yoga classes and individual treatment for women, including those going through perimenopause.
Freelance work brings plenty of variety. One of her current assignments is with an organisation that treats and supports employees on their way back to work, in close consultation with employers and occupational physicians. What lights her up is teaching people something new, and being invited to share her knowledge and experience.
Edith lives in Alkmaar with her two teenage daughters, and in her free time she loves to dance salsa and kizomba.
Treatment available in Dutch and English, online or in Alkmaar area.
